Embolden Design Creates Two Websites for Public Television
Embolden Design, an award-winning web development and consulting firm, has created two sites to support a television series that will air nationally on public television this fall. The series, “The College Track: America’s Sorting Machine,” is presented by WETA Washington, D.C. and distributed by American Public Television (APT). The production and national engagement campaign was developed and produced by Roundtable, Inc., a production company based in Waltham, MA, which specializes in using national media broadcasts to engage local communities.
The College Track, which began airing on September 3rd, is a three-part documentary that shakes up notions of who is “college material.” Embolden produced the official program website for WETA and another site for the show’s national engagement campaign, an outreach effort that will launch in conjunction with the series broadcast and push the issue of education equity to the fore. These sites can be found at www.thecollegetrack.com and http://outreach.thecollegetrack.com, respectively.
Remarked Ann-Marie Harrington, President of Embolden, “Working with Roundtable and WETA on these sites and the issues tied to this program has been very exciting. As a web company with many nonprofit clients, we also like to create media with a social mission. In addition, it is great to be aligned with a high-profile institution of integrity such as public television.”
In an intuitive and graphically rich format, Embolden’s program site for The College Track presents information about the documentary as well as compelling background and research about the issue of education equity. Embolden’s comprehensive outreach site will serve as a planning tool for those who participate in the national outreach efforts and will provide information on its two components: The Community Connections Campaign, designed to spark community-wide initiatives to help students prepare for and succeed in college, and The National Awareness Initiative, which seeks to engage leaders to propel the issues of education equity and systematic education reform to the top of the nation’s agenda.
The documentary is hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor Andre Braugher. It examines innovative ways of ensuring that all public school students – not just those targeted as high achievers – are prepared for higher education.
For 42 years, APT has been a major source of programming for the nation’s public television stations. APT distributes more than 10,000 hours of programming, including “Globe Trekker,” “Muhammad Ali: Through the Eyes of the World,” “Nightly Business Report” and “The Three Tenors Christmas.”
WETA Washington, D.C., is the third-largest producing station for public television. WETA’s productions and co-productions include “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” “Washington Week,” and public affairs and historical documentaries, including those by acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns, such as “The Civil War,” “Baseball,” “JAZZ,” and the upcoming “Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson.” Sharon Percy Rockefeller is president and CEO. More information on WETA and its programs and services is available on the website at www.weta.org.
Roundtable, Inc.(www.roundtablemedia.com) uses its high-visibility media projects to help build what has come to be called “social capital.” Combining TV, radio, web, books and supporting print with thoughtful partnerships among institutions of civil society across the country, Roundtable is able to ensure that popular media projects reach deeply into communities.
